Delivered new in the United States in 1962, this Jaguar E-type (chassis no. 877005) underwent a veritable rebirth in 2015 at the hands of Srdjan Jovovic, an enthusiast and founder of Classic Restoration Services, a workshop renowned for its restoration of competition Jaguars. Driven by the dream of building his own Semi-Lightweight E-Type, Jovovic surrounded himself with the best specialists to bring this exceptional project to life.
Strictly following the specifications of the legendary factory Lightweights, the bodywork was entrusted to Bob Williams (RS Panels), the absolute authority in the field, with over 50 years of experience. The work, designed entirely from scratch according to Lightweight specifications, was completed in 2016 after more than 1,000 hours of work and an investment of around €250,000.
Although the original steel body was retained, it was completely sandblasted and lightened, with removable parts made from aluminium: Lightweight bonnet, doors, ventilated boot and hardtop.
The interior features an integrated FIA roll cage and bucket seats designed by RS Panels.
The result: a kerb weight of just 1,140 kg, true to the spirit of factory cars.
Under the bonnet, the XK six-cylinder engine was prepared by Crosswaite & Gardiner to FIA standards: wide-angle cylinder head, solid crankshaft, lightweight flywheel, Omega connecting rods and 11:1 pistons. Powered by three Weber 45 DCOE carburettors, it develops 350 horsepower, with ideal reliability and flexibility for fast road use.
The whole thing breathes through a stainless steel competition exhaust system.
The transmission features a Jaguar close-ratio gearbox, a 9.5-inch reinforced clutch identical to the factory Lightweight, and a steel-cased limited-slip differential. Braking is handled by AP Racing (master cylinders, reinforced calipers, ventilated discs), while the running gear is directly inspired by the Lightweight model.
After more than 200 km of testing, the car was presented in 2016 at the Zandvoort circuit for an article in Octane Magazine (Dutch edition).
Today, this E-Type Semi-Lightweight resides in France, registered and perfectly maintained. Used sparingly for quick road trips, it is in impeccable condition.
Its Technical History Passport (PTH) remains valid until 2032, making this Jaguar an ideal candidate for historic events or open-road driving pleasure.
A superb interpretation, authentic in its approach and brilliant in its execution – at the crossroads of heritage and performance.
